Obama: Trump will be president ‘until the end of time’
President Barack Obama said Monday that Donald Trump will likely be president until the end, when his term ends.
Trump, who is running for reelection in 2020, said he has the support of both Republicans and Democrats in Congress and in his administration.
Obama said Trump has the “firm backing” of his family, his own inner circle and the American people, but he said it will be up to him to get the job done.
“I think he’s the most qualified candidate to be president, period, and I believe that,” Obama said on NBC’s “Today” show.
“We’ve seen a lot of speculation about who would be the next president.
I’m not going to say it, but I know that we’re not going anyplace until we get there.
But I think he’ll get there.”
Obama said he hopes to make it through 2020.
“There’s still a lot to be done, but the president of the United States has a great mandate,” he said.
“The president of this country has to be a servant of the people.
I hope that in the last few weeks I’ll be able to get that out there and hopefully get the people who are with me, the American public, to give me a clear mandate.”
Trump, a former reality TV star, has long been rumored to be the Republican nominee.
He has said he is running to run for the White House to “make America great again.”
“I want to make America great once again,” Trump said in September at a rally in Alabama.
“And I want to be President Trump, and that means I have to get elected.
I have no choice.”
Trump was asked whether he believed in God, and his reply was not definitive.
“No,” he responded.
“I mean, it’s a very good question.
I’ve been in heaven a long time, so I don’t know.”
Trump said he would work with his family to get things done, including building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, building a military base in the U, and getting rid of the Export-Import Bank.
